About

Hi, I am John Keller, a retired ELCA Lutheran pastor. Thanks for visiting my blog. Writing helps me live out my personal mission statement:

Created in the image of God,
baptized into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ,
and empowered by the Holy Spirit,
I am a child of God,
forever rooted in the grace of the gospel,
and continually growing in God’s wisdom, joy, guidance, and  power.

Brief Bio I was born in Little Falls, MN, and moved to Washington state as a child. I graduated from Haverford College and married my wife, Carolyn, in Kansas City, MO, in 1977. We moved to the Twin Cities for Luther Seminary and raised three children: Jonathan, Suzanne, and Christina. I served as pastor at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Resurrection Lutheran Church, and six interim pastorates in the Saint Paul Area Synod of the ELCA.

Thanks, Pastor John… I’m glad to be receiving your posts… the blog is a great idea, and a great way for me to start my workweek day, with a little reflection on the important things!

Wondering if you have a grandfather Martin Keller. My father went to seminary near Lake Phalen at the old Luther Seminary and his classmate was Martin Keller. I last saw Martin Keller here in Oregon and I am from Iowa but now live in Oregon my father’s name was Rev Arthur Langholz. He had several congregations in Iowa.

No, my father’s father, was George Keller, a county doctor in Wibaux, Montana, where my father grew up (though my father was born in Iowa). My father was a Methodist growing up and became a Lutheran when he married my mom. I have several Lutheran pastors on my mom’s side of the family, Mathre and Knutson for last names.

I’m so glad you are starting up your blogs again! You were our interim pastor at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church about 10? years ago. I’ve always enjoyed your messages.
