Morning Prayer for January, 2013
Psalm 130
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!
If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;
My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as is heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

Almighty God, I thank you for the fresh start of a new day, as I remember the resurrection of my savior Jesus and the new life he brings, especially I thank you —
for the wonder and beauty of your creation …
for the new creation in Christ and Christ’s Spirit in me. . .
for the network of relationships by which I am nourished. . .
for Resurrection Lutheran Church and the community of saints. . .
Merciful God, stir up and heal this broken world, restore your hurting children, and bring about your peace for all in Christ Jesus. Especially I pray
for the people in countries ravaged by strife, famine or warfare . . .
for those who govern the nations of the world . . .
for all who work for peace and justice. . .
for all who respond to our destructive and careless behavior. . .
for your church throughout the world.

Prayer of Trust
O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending,
by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.
Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go,
but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

I love it. Excellent idea. I am often challenged by the fact that I spend more time running than I do in quiet prayer with my Bible. I do find I am closest to God when I am running and it is a great time for prayers of thankfulness and prayers of intercession.
But I find that I lack a “goal” to sit down and pray. This is like an easy 10 minute “start your day” Bible workout.
I will join you. And I am in a men’s Bible study which is studying Luke right now. Perfect..

Thanks, Mike. Lets check in with each other on a weekly basis to see how it is going. I am thinking of presenting this to Resurrection this Sunday since we will be reading Luke and it is a good way to start the year. I am two for two so far this year.
