Today Carolyn and I celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary. I wrote about our romance a couple of years ago here. Though we have had our share of struggles, she continues to bring joy and love into my life.
One place where Carolyn excels is in her love of family, our children and grandchildren. When our children were younger, she set aside her career as a pastor to give time and opportunities for our children, Jonathan, Suzanne and Christina. She made sure our children had the best overall educational opportunities for each child, using a combination of public schools, private schools, public charter school and home schooling to provide the best learning environment for each of our three children. She served as an informal college guidance counselor as each child flew from the nest to out-of-state colleges.
Now with two grandchildren, she has embraced her new role as “Grand” (grandmother) . I know people who struggle or even reject the title of grandparent, since they see it as a sign of aging. Carolyn has embraced her role, savoring every opportunity to interact with Jack and Grace. I am so thankful that we are able to share in this honor together as grandparents and her devotion continues to teach and inspire me. She sees this as part of her calling from God, to share the wonder of Jesus Christ with our children and grandchildren.
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you. (2 Timothy 1:5)
Lord Jesus, thank you for Carolyn.
This is a lovely piece.
(I think it’s Gran.)
All kidding aside, you made a significant contribution to this post.
Congratulations Carolyn and John, what a beautiful family you have. May God continue to bless your union with the legacy of many more wonderful years together (and many more grandchildren) ~ they truly are the reward for our years of parenting!
Thanks, I am so very thankful for Carolyn and family.

Welcome to the Grandmother Club!
Hi John, happy 37th anniversary to you and Carolyn! I love the family selfie and the joyful article! Marriage and relationships all have their struggles…and even then, Roger and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary! We proudly remember that you married us on July 2, 1994 and that your young children gleefully played on the playground equipment at Tartan Park! Now those same children bring you grandchildren! The cycle of life! Blessings to you and your family!
I also remember you as the Pastor who back in 1992 planted the seed for me to get St. Andrew’s involved in Habitat for Humanity in 1992…which lead to me meeting Roger and St. Andrew’s involvement in many homes in St. Paul…now HFH’s PR department is in the process of writing an article on Roger and me and our involvement for their blog!
Vicki, you have been a constant inspiration to me on how God calls and works though his people. Peace to you and Roger.
My relatives all the time say that I am wasting my
time here at web, but I know I am getting knowledge every day by reading thes good articles or reviews.
